Sarah Deacon is a writer of novels, short stories and plays, currently living in Somerset.
Sarah’s career began as a theatre director and producer, focusing on new writing and developing young playwrights. Although she started her first novel at fourteen (never completed!), it wasn’t until she left the theatre to work in conservation that Sarah really concentrated on her own writing. Since then she has written three novels and is currently working on a fourth, as well as numerous short stories and the occasional play. She has an MA in Creative Writing from Bath Spa University, and was shortlisted for the Janklow & Nesbit Bath Spa Prize for her MA manuscript.
Her novels tend towards contemporary fantasy and magic realism, while her plays and short stories are more often literary. Three of her short stories were published in SIC, an anthology by writing group The Knot. She won the Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook Short Story Competition 2012 with The Lady Next Door and was shortlisted for the Frome Short Story Competition 2017 with Runaway. These and a selection of other work are available to read here.
